Tiko

Welcome messages

Greet joining members in a server channel, a private Welcome DM, or both. Use a simple message and card or a custom Discord embed. Channel welcomes and DMs are off by default and have separate switches.

Turn on channel welcomes/setup → Fine-tune → Welcome message → Enable

Get a channel welcome running

  1. Open setup. Run /welcomeconfig message, or go to /setup → Fine-tune → Welcome message → Setup.
  2. Choose a channel if you want one. Use Welcome Channel, or leave it unset to let Tiko pick one.
  3. Write the greeting. Under Channel Welcome, click Customize, then ✎ Welcome Message. For example:
Welcome to {server_name}, <@user>! You're member #{server_member_count}.
  1. Click Enable Embed if shown. This turns welcome messages on immediately.
  2. Click ✓ Save & Close to keep your text and embed changes.

The next member to join will get the new welcome. To turn it off later, use /disable features → Welcome Messages, the Disable button in Fine-tune, or Disable Embed in the editor.

Where the welcome goes

In /welcomeconfig message, Pick a welcome channel sets a dedicated destination. Clear removes that choice; Done closes the panel. Leaving the channel unset lets Tiko follow your drop channel, which is usually where members already chat.

  1. Your welcome channel
  2. First existing drop channel
  3. Server Settings → Overview → System Messages channel

If none is available, no channel welcome is sent; enabled Welcome DMs can still arrive. Tiko checks it can send messages and attach files before saving a dedicated channel. If that channel is later deleted, Tiko clears it and tries the next option automatically.

Channel permissions for Tiko

  • Send Messages: required; without it, Tiko skips the welcome.
  • Embed Links: needed for a custom embed. Without it, only the text line is sent.
  • Attach Files: needed for the generated card image.

Use the live editor

Open the channel editor with /welcome embed or /welcomeconfig message → Channel Welcome → Customize. It posts publicly in the channel where you open it, so a staff channel is a good place to work.

The editor shows a live preview using you as the example member and a separate controls panel. Changes to the message and embed stay in a draft until you click ✓ Save & Close. The session lasts two hours. Enable Embed and Disable Embed take effect immediately.

Default card
With no custom embed settings, Tiko sends your text line and a generated card showing the member's avatar and name.
Custom embed
Changing the title, description, fields, author, footer, thumbnail, color, or image switches to an embed. Add {welcome_card} to Image URL or Thumbnail to keep the card.

If a custom embed has nothing visible, Tiko sends a simple fallback: “@Member has joined the server! Give them a warm welcome!” ↺ Reset Draft restores the default card in your draft only; it leaves the message text alone, and you must save to keep the reset.

What each editor control does
✎ Welcome Message
Text above the card or embed. Supports Discord markdown and variables.
⌘ Variables
Shows placeholders privately to you.
✎ Content
Title (256 characters), description (4,000), footer (2,048), and footer icon URL. The footer needs text to appear.
▦ Fields
Opens a private panel to add, edit, and organize embed fields.
◉ Author
Opens a private picker with Newcomer, Server, Custom, and Remove. The author name needs text to appear.
◇ Color
Set a six-digit hex color, with or without #.
▣ Thumbnail / 🔗 Image URL
Use a direct https image link, {welcome_card}, {user_avatar}, or {server_icon}.

Custom server emoji typed as :emoji_name: becomes the real emoji when you submit. Unknown names stay as typed.

Saving Tiko's default welcome text (or an older default) keeps it on the default, so future improvements to that greeting apply automatically.

Set up Welcome DMs

Send a private greeting to each joining member. DMs start off and work independently from channel welcomes; no welcome channel is required.

  1. Open /welcomeconfig message, or /setup → Fine-tune → Welcome message → Setup.
  2. Under Welcome DM, below Channel Welcome, click Enable DM. Use Disable DM to turn it off. Both switches take effect immediately.
  3. To write a separate DM, click Customize → ✎ DM Message. Use the same embed controls for its design, then ✓ Save & Close. Add {welcome_card} to Image URL or Thumbnail to keep the card in a custom embed.

Follow the channel welcome or save a custom DM

Uses your welcome message means future DMs follow your channel welcome text and embed. Saving a content change switches to Custom message; later channel edits won't overwrite it. Saving an untouched draft keeps it following.

To follow again, use ↺ Reset Draft in the DM editor, then ✓ Save & Close. This restores both text and embed from the channel welcome. Editing a DM never changes the channel welcome.

You need Manage Server to toggle DMs, plus Manage Roles and Manage Channels to customize them. The editor and preview appear publicly where opened, so use a staff channel.

Members must allow DMs from Tiko. Closed DMs or rejected sends are skipped without a retry; channel welcomes continue independently.

Variables

Tiko replaces these placeholders when it sends a channel welcome or DM. Use them in the message line or any embed text box.

Member

VariableWhat it becomes
<@user>Mentions the new member.
<@user_id>Same as <@user>.
{username}Their username.
{nickname}Their server nickname, or username if they have none.
{user_tag}Same as {username}.
{user_avatar}Avatar image URL; useful for an author icon or thumbnail.

Server

VariableWhat it becomes
{server_name}Your server name.
{server_member_count}Current member count.
{server_icon}Server icon URL; useful for a thumbnail, author icon, or footer icon.
<#channel_id>Links to the System Messages channel, or displays #welcome if there is none.

Special

VariableWhat it becomes
{welcome_role}Mentions your Welcomer role in channel welcomes only.
<@&role_id>Same as {welcome_role}.
{timestamp}Join time, shown in each viewer’s local time.
{welcome_card}The generated welcome card image.

Two special cases

{welcome_role} pings the Welcomer role used for Welcome Rewards in channel welcomes. Set it with /welcomeconfig rewards or /welcome role <role>; remove it with /welcome remove. If no role is set, Tiko removes the placeholder and its preceding space. In DMs, both {welcome_role} and <@&role_id> are always removed, including from embeds.

{welcome_card} works in Image URL or Thumbnail. In the text line, Tiko removes the placeholder and attaches the card separately. In server channels, it needs Attach Files permission.

Examples & reference

Simple greeting

Hey <@user>, welcome to {server_name}! {welcome_role}

Leave the embed at its default for the generated card.

Embed with card
Message: <@user> {welcome_role}
Title: Welcome to {server_name}!
Description: You are member #{server_member_count}.
Image URL: {welcome_card}
Embed without card
Choose Author → Newcomer for the joining member's display name and avatar. Use {timestamp} in Description and {server_icon} in Thumbnail. Leave Image URL empty.

Auto Setup can turn welcomes on and look for a suitable channel such as #welcome, #arrivals, or #joins. It skips general chat, rules, and announcement channels. It sets a channel only if Tiko can send messages, embeds, and files there; otherwise normal channel selection applies. Auto Setup does not change your message or embed.

Welcome Rewards can register a new member even when welcome messages are off. A member who joined before is not registered again.
